"Country music is in good hands."    - Robby Turner (Waylon's pedal steel player/good friend)

Preston McCabe is a country singer and songwriter from a small town in Indiana. He has been performing since he was 14, and believes in the bringing back the traditional country sound. Preston brings a genuine and spirited performance to every stage, drawing on influences from traditional country and his own life on the rodeo circuit.

His biggest role models are Waylon Jennings, George Jones, Alan Jackson, George Strait, Chris Ledoux, and most of all his grandpa.

Preston puts on a lively, honky tonkin show that keeps the crowd engaged; while, never failing to keep the story telling aspect of country music alive.

Preston writes his music according to the way the legends would have. He brings a younger generation back to the roots of country music. With riding bulls in his past, the rodeo influence sneaks into his songs once in a while. With 5 singles released and more on the way.

Preston performs at a variety of venues and events. He performed at the first Georgia Country Music Festival. He performs at local county fairs and has sang at the Illinois and Indiana State Fair. He performs at several rodeos around Indiana. Preston frequently travels to Nashville to perform at the Nashville Palace. He has supported Alex Miller and The Rangers Band.

Preston has also opened for multi-platinum artist Josh Turner, as well as country music legends Shenandoah; the GRAMMY-winning group behind the timeless hit “Two Dozen Roses.” Preston's shows allow him connect with longtime fans of classic country while introducing his spirited sound to new audiences.

April 10th, 2026 Preston released his debut album "Heading West" Country Central, Country Chord, Country Credit and many other big name social media pages had it listed along side some of the biggest names in the industry the night it dropped for "New Music Friday"

This is what JB Chicago from Saving Country Music had to say in his review on the album

𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗰𝗖𝗮𝗯𝗲 – 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁 – 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄

These days, because of the 15 albums and 40 songs that come out every week in the Country music world (that we know about), not to mention the artificial bullshit that’s starting to infiltrate our little world, the pressure is heavier than ever to be an overnight sensation. New artists are expected to come out and compete immediately without the opportunity to grow and learn as songwriters/performers. I’ve been told the powers that be, meaning the record labels, agents, and producers, look at their numbers of spins/followers on multiple platforms and use them as the scorecards for the worthiness of possible bookings for shows, festival spots, tours, and just about everything else. Is that fair? In my 50 yrs in the music business, nothing has ever been fair, nor will it ever be, much like life.

So, when a youngster like 23 yr. old Preston McCabe puts out a debut album in 2026, will anyone even notice or care? You’re damn right they will if it’s this good, and that’s what Trigger, myself, and the other SCM contributors try and do. Notice, present (<-pree zent), and scream “hey listen to this!!!” Hailing from Walton, Indiana, he’s been at it since he was 13, so even though Heading West might be his debut album, this monumental effort has been in the works for years. Citing Waylon, Alan Jackson, and newer guys like Worthington and Top as influences, you know what you’re gonna get here. Real Trad Country! Being a solid solo songwriter at a young age is a nice start for Preston, but then having the intelligence and maturity to enlist a Ben Jarrell, Zach Henard, Doc Lewis, and Hal Odell who will be referred to as “The Team” for the rest of this review, to give a songwriting helping hand is what separates the men from the boys. At the end of the day, I’m fairly certain Preston handpicked what ended up on this record. Best song wins! There’s that term again. Who said that? 🤔 See, I’m never too old to learn the way Country music does things.

There are so many good songs on this album, I’ll just start with the first track I spun when I was told about Preston, Rodeo Man, which is a very good opener, but it barely scratches the surface of what’s to come because the next few songs, 3 Doubles, cowritten with The Team, as was Cinderella, and Ronnie and Brenda (seen here above), are all A+ up tempo toe tappers that still each have their own uniqueness. Marisol, co-written with Hal and Zach, has a beautiful light melody and chorus that makes you sing along and has hit single possibilities. Waltzes? You want waltzes? How about the solo written Neon Blues or Lonely, also a Team effort, as was Montana Rain by Ben Jarrell and John Caldwell.

3 more tunes written solely by Preston, I’m Gonna Fill Their Shoes, which takes mighty big balls to write, but I love the confidence, which is a must have in this business. A lot of legend name dropping in this track that features pedal steel player Rusty Danmyer, who’s played with Alan Jackson and a slew of others. “There’s been an awful murder down on music row,” Preston laments. The second is the amazing power ballad Say My Name, which is one of my favorites of this bunch. The grand finale of this glorious debut is Rodeo Stuff, which I’m sure is or will be a live show highlight. The only thing I’m going to say about ending an album, especially a long one with a great song, a banger this good, is these days with so much music coming out and short attention spans, folks might not keep listening and ever get down to that final track, and here they’d be missing something for sure on this record. Props to producer Jeremy Mang for doing really nice job on the monumental task of 15 songs. Years from now he’ll be able to say, “I did the first Preston McCabe album.”

Preston will only get better, I’ve watched videos, and he definitely has the all important stage presence thing dialed in. He has a bright future ahead of him, and with talent like this I see no reason why it won’t be a full time, long successful career. He’s got a bunch of shows lined up including opening for Shenandoah on June 26th and The Rangers on July 25th!
